Back in 2015, Stephen Curry was both celebrating a huge milestone in his career and adjusting to life as a new father. After helping the Golden State Warriors win the NBA Championship, he wanted to include his two-year-old daughter, Riley who is now 12 in the celebration.
Curry often brought Riley along to post-game press conferences, where she would sit with him at the podium, sometimes stealing the spotlight with her playful behavior. At the time, it felt right to him — he was proud and wanted to share those joyful moments with his family.
However, looking back, Curry admits he may have made a mistake by putting her in front of the cameras too early.
Curry Looks Back on the Decision
While reflecting on that unforgettable championship win, Curry admitted there was one part he wished had played out differently. In a 2019 interview with The Undefeated, he shared his thoughts.
“One thing I do technically regret, considering how quickly everything happened, is bringing Riley onto the podium,” he said. “I’ve always wanted my family to be a part of the journey and experience what I do. But I had no idea how big it would become or how much attention she would attract.”
Curry explained that, although his intentions were good, Riley was very young and didn’t fully understand what was happening. The sudden burst of public attention might have been overwhelming for her at that age.
Now a father of four, Curry is more mindful about protecting his children’s privacy especially when it comes to the media.
